Chief Warrant Officer Three AARON WILLIAM COWAN
December 17, 1967 – February 26, 2005
Chief Warrant Officer Aaron Cowan died in a helicopter crash in South Korea while on his third tour of duty there. Son of Tip (COL USA, ret) and Dr. Mary Cowan, Aaron was born in Silver City where he grew up with his older brother Greene and sister Rachel. Attending local schools, he graduated from Silver High in 1986 where he was active in cross country, basketball, and track.
Immediately thereafter Aaron entered military service as an infantryman. He served in Special Operations and was highly decorated with the Expert Infantry Badge, his Ranger Tab, Scuba Badge, and Master Parachutist’s Wings, etc. CW3 Cowan entered Aviation Service in 1992 and served as an attack helicopter pilot. His interest in helicopters had begun when he was two, leading him to earn his rotorcraft license while in high school. He soon became a skilled Army pilot, qualifying as an AH-64A/D (Apache) Instructor Pilot and Safety Officer.
Survived by wife Kari and son Logan William, Aaron had enjoyed assisting with his son’s varied activities as well as scuba diving and competitive pistol shooting. We are confident Aaron is sporting a heavenly smile since his former eight year old son Logan graduated in May from the US Air Force Academy.
